They will use Rise as their weekly practice facility as well as hosting camps, clinics, leagues and tournaments. They currently have 16 travel items with hopes of adding as many as 10 more beginning with the 2021-2022 season. Notable organizations such as Twin City Volleyball Academy, a local youth travel volleyball program with over 175 children participating, has signed to move their program into Rise beginning in May. ![]() ![]() Local clubs and programming include basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, field hockey, pickleball, 7 v 7 football and more. Early clients include Salem Gymnastics, Phenom Hoops basketball tournaments, 5P Sports basketball, Teammate basketball, Big Shots basketball, Carolina Region USA Volleyball and Lucky Dog volleyball tournaments. The building boasts eight basketball regulation high school courts that convert to 12 volleyball courts, four indoor soccer fields with field turf, a performance training center, fitness center, concessions and seven community meeting rooms.ĭemand has been strong with over 1.3 million tournament visitors expected in the first 18 months of operation and facility bookings for various sporting events secured for 76 out of the first 78 weekends. In her spare time, Kris likes to quilt, crochet, and cross stitch, and is learning to knit.North Carolina’s Winston-Salem region welcomes a new indoor sports facility this spring as Rise Indoor Sports, a 123,000-square-foot multi-use complex debuts in May. She assists with the children and youth bible studies as well as music and drama ministries. Her entire family is very active at their church, Covenant Baptist Fellowship, where her husband Sam is the pastor. Kris has two children, Breanna and Matthew. Kris has led workshops on learning mathematics through art, particularly Calculator Art, for various high schools as well as at NCCTM State Conferences. Kris is very active in professional circles through her memberships in the Mathematics Association of America (MAA), National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) as well as the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM). During her time at the Academy, Kris has taught Algebra Two, Advanced Functions & Modeling, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB (Calculus One), and Calculus BC (Calculus Two). Having graduated from Salem College with first-hand experience in the world single-sex education, Kris is passionate about Salem Academy’s mission to educate and prepare young ladies not only for college but also for their future. Kris Porazzi Sorrells earned her MA in Mathematics (1998) from Wake Forest University and her BS in Mathematics from Salem College (1996), where she also received the Elisabeth Oesterlein Award. We share a beautiful Fine Arts Center and state-of-the-art Athletic Complex with the College we also offer dual enrollment classes on our own campus so that students may receive college credit from teachers in their own academic community. Our beautiful grounds are adjacent to Salem College, and many of our seniors take classes at the College during their senior year. Since 1772, Salem Academy has provided girls in grades 9-12 an outstanding college preparatory education.
